Introduction

Flyers are used for many different kinds of reasons. They can be used to advertise sales, garage sales, parties, socials, meeting, etc. Nice looking flyers can be designed with four basic elements: (1) Border around the outside, (2) A large title, (3) A graphic or clipart to catch the readers eye, and (4) The details telling about the flyer.

Materials & Software

  • Microsoft Publisher 97
  • Microsoft Word 97

Objectives

  • Use desktop publishing software
  • Use border feature of desktop publishing software
  • Use Word Art
  • Use clipart or picture import
  • Use good page layout design
  • Modify objects in a document

Prerequisite Skills

  • Use File: Open, Save, Save As, and Print options

Time Allotted

One class period.

How to Begin (Directions & Procedures)

Flyer Setup

  1. Open your desktop publishing software.

    Pubisher Menu Blank Pages
  2. Choose a the Blank Page tab.
  3. Then select the Full Page drawing and click OK.

  4. Flyer and then click OK.
  5. ToolBar
    Publisher Toolbar

Border

  1. Select the Box tool on the Toolbar to the left.
  2. Drag a frame that covers most of the area inside the print margins of the page.
  3. Make sure the Frame is selected. It will have sqaure handles in the corners.

Title

  1. Type the title in a larger font.
  2. Use WordArt.

Graphic or Clipart

  1. Add a picture.

Details

  1. Make a text box.
  2. Change the font to about 20 points.

Preview and Save

  1. Save, proofread, preview, and print.
